Severe Knee Pain

Post a new topicby unkleleo1 on Sat Apr 25, 2009 11:27 am

I have been having quite a bit of pain in my left knee of late which starts in the kneecap itself and wraps around to the back of the knee. It is very tight feeling behind there as well.

I have had previous surgery upon this knee (Open latterall release with Fullkerson Procedure) and this similar type problem appered last year. My then Orhto Guy said that my THEN M.R.I. was clear and shot me up three times and put my into physical therapy

Since then this problem has gotten worse and the NEW M.R.I. shows at least mild Grade IV Chondromalacic changes of the patella, no meniscal tears and joint effusion with a very small Bakers Cyst. And this is only a little over a year later from my last probllem. The surgery is about five years old now.

I have done my own physical therapy and worn both a soft and stiff brace to no avail.

Do you feel with these new symtoms that I may have to undergo surgery again?

Hello, my Father has osteoarthritis in his right knee and is bone on bone in x-rays and I have patellofemoral syndrome (runner's knee). My dad was told he needed knee replacement surgery and I was told to stop running. My father decided that surgery was not an option for him. We have tried several treatments and braces to releive the pain and most didn't work until we found a knee orthosis/brace that stopped the pain for both of us. Most knee braces only support the knee joint. This one is different; it aligns the upper and lower leg so the patella (knee cap) can glide in the femoral groove correctly, it stopped the pain for my father and myself and is helping to retrain the muscles of my knee joint.

The more I wore the orthosis/brace during physical activity the more I notice the difference in my knee. I am now only wearing the orthosis/brace when I am running or playing disc golf. My Father wears the brace during normal daily activity and no longer suffers with knee pain while wearing the orthosis/brace and is pain free for longer periods of time after taking the brace off.

Hopefully the orthosis/brace can help you with your knee pain and you will be able to delay or prevent surgery like my Father.
