Thyroid cancer and ovarian cancer

Post a new topicby missingjake on Mon Oct 22, 2007 12:23 am

I am 30 years old and was diagnosed with 2 ovarian mucinous tumors bilaterally (one on each side) in August 2007. I had a CT scan of my lungs for a possible pulmonary embolism, however it was ruled out. My lungs were clear and i had laproscopic surgery to remove both tumors. Now after returning to my remote home I read in my medical records that i have a nodule in my thyroid on the left side measuring 2.5 cm. I had not noticed it and no one mentioned it to me so I asked my physcian who recommended an ultrasound. I now am going to have a fine needle aspiration to determine what the cystic mass is.
My question is Could this be a mucinous tumor on my thyroid that's related to the ovarian borderline cancer tumors i was diagnosed with a couple of months ago?
Is there a bigger picture i need to ask my doctors to look for because it seems pretty unlikely that they would happen around the same time and not be connected?
Does anyone have any experience with this?
Are there tests to request and can a CA-125 be used as a tumor marker to determine if it is cancer?

Hello,

12 years ago I had a thyroid goiter that had to be removed. IT was not cancerous. The following year was diagnosed with ovaraian cancer, also borderline. I had a total hysterectomy. Now 12 years later I have another thyroid nodule that I will need to have scanned to evaluate the likelyhood of cancer. What have you heard about this? please email me with any infor you have. My email address is [moderator note: e-mail address has been removed]. Thank you and good luck!
