Unsure about having to remove a dyplastic nevus

Post a new topicby Guest on Sun Jun 03, 2001 12:12 pm

I had a mole removed doctor says it has been checked result is it's a dysplastic nevus of mildest m. doctor wants to go ahead remove it, I'm not sure I want to at point. It will quite an unsightly scar. mole is already removed didn't have a border of completely "normal" cells, so it would require guesswork on part of surgeon to remove may or may not be re in tissue. do think? Thanks, Susan

The decision to remove the area around a mild dysplastic nevus varies greatly base don physician to physician. It is my personal belief that, based on what you are saying, it does not need re-excision. However, that needs to be worked out between you and your doctor. If you refuse the procedure, he will probably document that in the chart to protect himself against any future lawsuits, should something become of this. Unfortunately, we live in a country where doctors get sued easily and so many doctors will do everything possible to avoid this outcome. The decision is ultimately yours.
