pregnancy after melanoma

Post a new topicby Guest on Mon Mar 25, 2002 9:28 pm

I was diagnosed with Stage 1 melanoma last month (.35mm, Clark3, no ulceration) on my inner thigh. I had the surgery done to remove 1cm around the melanoma and the pathology came back clear. I am 30 and have a 14 month old daughter. My question is how long I should wait to become pregnant again. I've heard that the hormones in pregnancy may stir up a reccurance. Is that true? If not, should I still wait a few years? Thanks.

I know of no data to suggest that you should wait before becoming pregnant. Theoretically pregnancy reduces the effectiveness of your immune system and may increase your risk of recurrence but I know of no studies which confirm the theory. Thank you for using oncologychannel and good luck.
