Enlarging mole?

Post a new topicby Guest on Tue Mar 26, 2002 3:57 pm

My husband, who has a lot of dyplastic moles, just noticed that a mole he's always had on his lower belly has grown significantly larger (now about 10 mm; used to be maybe 6 mm) and seems to be uniformly raised and medium brown, while I seem to remember that it was flatter and darker brown before--not sure though. We've made a appointment with a dermetologist, but it's not for almost 2 weeks (soonest they could offer us). I'm going to be so anxious about this in the meantime, though!!!

Is there anything else this could be besides a melanoma?? It is pretty much uniform in shape and color, oval and medium brown (there is one subtle notch and one area that's maybe a little darker, but it doesn't look different that his other moles just bigger), the border is well-demarcated, and the skin around it is normal. The reason we're especially concerned is that he was treated with adjuvant radiation for a testicular tumor about 2 1/2 years ago, and the mole is within the treated field.

Any information would be greatly appreciated, and might allow to rest a little easier while I'm waiting for the derm appointment!!

It is possible that this represents a melanoma however only evaluation and biopsy can give a definitive answer. thank you for using oncologychannel and good luck.
