Discolored Toenail

Post a new topicby Guest on Thu Mar 14, 2002 1:03 am

I have a toenail in which exactly half of it is black underneath. It has been this way for a year or two. It does not cause pain, but sometimes feels like it may be a little sore. The line through my nail is vertical and perfectly straight. The dark color extends under the skin behind the cuticle area a little bit. My doctor is sending me to a dermatologist because he said it is indicative of a melanoma (specifically acral lentiginous). I am a 35 year old caucasion female in good health. Low blood pressure and exercise 4-5 days per week.

Unfortunately I cannot tell what the question is to this post. I would say
that if there is discoloration that has been there unchanged that a
dermatological examination would certainly be indicated to rule out the
possibility of melanoma. Thank you for using oncologychannel and good luck.
