Interpreting Anatomic Pathology Report

Post a new topicby LarryD on Wed Nov 12, 2008 11:06 pm

I am 63, and had a robotically-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy 3 weeks ago. My surgical margins are all negative, but there was microscopic extracapsular extension, perineural invasion, and a Gleason grade of 7 (3+4). There was no seminal vesicle invasion. Regional lymph nodes were not biopsied. My pathologic staging is pT3a. My main question is what are the implications of "perineural invasion", especially regarding probability of recurrence? There is no history of cancer in my family.

My second question is that I have been prescribed Viagra (daily dosage) to encourage recovery of erectile function: does this Viagra regimen affect the probability of recurrence of prostate cancer?

Thanks in advance for any information you can provide.
