Make sure you start having your psa tested by age 50My husband is 54 years old and had not been to a doctor for probably 20 years until he fell last April and hurt his knee. The knee required surgery and the orthopedic surgeon required a pre-surgical physical. Since Gabe did not have a regular physician, I him to my GP who did a complete physical, including a rectal exam. Gabe had absolutely no outward symptoms that something may be wrong. Re: Make sure you start having your psa tested by age 50I was diagnosed when I was 58. RADICAL surgery. Didn't bother me much since I've always been a macho type. Lived 7 years before return. Began to bother me. Had radiation treatments. Also one(and only) harmone shot. Side effects auful. Mental problems no one understood(not even me). Anger toward everyone and everything. Family deserted me. Depression big time. Back to the dr, said My cancer was still somewhere in my body. Probably in my spine. had bone scan, no detection. Will not have any more treatments. I do not want to live just to exist. (oh yeah, I also have copd, end stage) Jerrell Tuggle
Re: Make sure you start having your psa tested by age 50It may even be wise to have tests done before 50 . Finding a good doctor is getting difficult . Too many are giving up their practice . I have had 3 doctors in 4 years . Know what testing your doctor is doing . Two of the doctors I had took blood samples every 6 months and told me I was fine . I took a physical to get higher life insurance earlier this year . I was rejected because of high PSA (6.0).
I am 59 years old and the 2 doctors had never checked PSA levels . The second doctor retired just before I had the insurance physical and I had not yet seen the third doctor .
