I am very sorry to hear about your mother. My mother passed away from pancreatic cancer August 2008. Regards to your questions the Doctor gave my mother

Percutaneous celiac nerve block: in this procedure the radiologist inserts a needle into the nerves around the pancreas utilizing images from the CT scan for guidance and alcohol is injected into the nerves to destroy the nerves.
# Celiac nerve blockade accomplished by endoscopic ultrasonography: in this technique the nerves behind the pancreas are destroyed by alcohol injection with the assistance of images obtained from endoscopic ultrasonography.

My mother didn't have any back pain after having the alcohol injection. Ask your mother's doctor for more information. National Cancer Institute good source of information.

I hope this help.

My brother was recently diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer and has the abdominal pain. His doctor is aggressive treating him with pain medicine of varying degree such as Percocet, Oxycontin and Fentanyl and stomach medicine ie Prevacid, Succrafate. For every cancer there are cancer survivors. God determines our length of stay on this side of heaven. That my source of strength and hope.
