Recurrence of clear cell ovarian carcinoma

Post a new topicby indrasis123 on Fri Dec 28, 2007 4:05 am

My mom(age 54) was diagnosed ovarian clear cell carcinoma with CA 125=48 in march 2006.
Left ovary was affected with left fallopian tube and cervix. Hysterectomy was done and no residual mass ware visible after operation. During operation the tumor was adherent to intestine and other organs and also ruptured where blackish fluid came out.
She was given cisplatin (300)+ Taxol(400). Sequential CA125 showed good response for each month of 3 months interval. It became 35.1,11.1 and 11.8 respectively.
Again in Dec26th, 2007 USG after 8 months revealed a solid hypoechoic solid mass (4.4cm x 3.2cm) has developed in her left iliac fossa and CA 125 has raised to 62.8. CT scan also revealed the same.
Doctors are saying it's a case of recurrence.
My apprehension is how threatening is this condition now and how this could be treated? Direct chemotherapy or surgery followed by chemotherapy
I found CCC has worst prognosis and in a state of stupor for the recurrence. Could she be able to recover completely? Please suggest if you have any good suggestions.
We love her a lot.
