Gemcitabine

Post a new topicby carriesmoos on Tue Aug 19, 2008 9:09 pm

I was just wondering if there is anyone out there that has heard of the chemo drug of Gemcitabine being used for ovarian cancer?? This is my second bout and the last time I had carboplatin and taxol but this time I was allergic to the carboplatin. The dr. decided to change my chemo to the gemcitabine. While looking through the internet for more info it said that this drug is given for a number of other cancers but said nothing of ovarian cancer Can anyone out there help me??
Thanks

I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in Dec. 2005 and have been thru various drugs of chemotherapy one of them was Gemcitabine along with carboplatin for 6 cycles. It was the most effective combination of drugs given to me for ovarian cancer Stage III (clear cell) I was in remission for 9 months. It is usually used to Pancreatic Cancer but is commonly used in Ovarian and other cancers as well. I hope that it works well for you also. Good luck and stay positive.
