Betty’s story

I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in May of 2005, stage 3c. Basically I was very tired but I attributed it to working hard and being over weight. So, I finally went to my doctor stating I was so very tired. My doctor a CBC to see if I was possibly anemic. Well my white count was elevated and my doctor repeated it in 2 weeks and it was still high so she sent me to a Hematologist and he did test and they all came back normal, tumor markers, that is. So eventually I had a Cat scan and then P...Read the full article

Betty - so happy to read your story. My good friend is waiting to hear - hopefully today - info from the MD on the stage of her probable ovarian cancer. The MD said he is pretty sure it is a stage III. I am so worried b/c she has pretty extensive abdominal ascites - 5 liters of fluid was removed and within a few days the fluid is returning. Fortunately she is in good spirits - her faith in God is strong - but of course saddened at the thought of not being here for important things in life that you can't speed up...daughter graduating from school/getting married, etc. I don't mean to be pessimistic, but the thought of having my friend still here for at least a few more years (longer if it is God's will) makes me feel much better.
Prayers & hugs for you.

Dear Betty,
I am now 47 years old and was diagnosed when I was 45. I have had chemo for a year and half. Recently, I have had a chemo "break." I was the opposite of you and had extremely HIGH CA125 levels. 27000 before surgery. After all that chem, I got down to 10 and then took a break and the level has risen the whole time, but my CT scans don't show measureable disease. I ask my doctor about taking tamoxifen or (there's another one that starts with an R) and he said no, but didn't really say why. I wonder if it would have helped my have a longer remission. Could you let me know about the tamoxifen? I have had a lot of chemo and will be doing Taxol and Avastin again - after Christmas.
