radiation question - please help

Post a new topicby pprnmba on Mon Jan 21, 2008 11:31 pm

My brother is having radiation for very early throat cancer and has been coughing up small tissue and blood- his oncologist said this is normal given the fact his radiation concentrates on his neck- is this correct?

This was my experience also.
As I went through treatment and recovery the sloughing off of tissue
diminished and stopped. Not the worst side effect but none the less disturbing
when you first notice it. It would be helpful I think, for the docs to tell you
in advance that this and other things might occur so that an already scary situation
'does not become horrifying. Sometimes we cancer sufferers think that all side effects
are the disease come back again.

I hope this is helpful.
I'm doing better now and am disease free 6 months after a very aggressive series of 40 radiation treatments - 2 per day. I had cancer at the base of my tongue. There is hope. Hang in.
