Very new and scare

Post a new topicby ShaSha on Thu Sep 27, 2007 6:19 pm

My husband has been recently diagnosed with NH b-cell lymphona. He will be having his CT scan this week. What I am really confused is that he went in for a routine colonoscopy and 2 polyps were found one large one small. Both originally came back benign but Dr. wanted further testing. 2nd result came as above. From what I have researched he should have side affects ie) night sweats, weight loss etc. There has been no effects. He is a very healthy 51 year old. What makes things even worse is that my daughter will be going in this week for a complete Thyroid removal as cancer was found there from a biopsy of a lump. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

It's enough to scare you, that's for sure. My husband was just diagnosed with a malanoma (sp?) and it turned out to be malignant. There is lymph node involvement, but thus far it looks to have gone no farther... we hope! There is loads of information on the internet - all frightening in my opinion. For us the Godsend is a friend who is a nurse manager of an office and she has gotten everything rolling. Follow up from yesterday's biopsy tomorrow, PET scan next week and then treatment. So, what I say to you is don't waste any time, be proactive and pushy if needs be to get the answers you need.

I understand your fear - I had to go into town today and burst into tears in two local business establishments. Not fun. Also, learn to rely on friends, there are plenty of folks who want to help, let them.

I wish you all the best and you are in my prayers.

Check back in so we can see how things are going for you.

Julie

Thank you for your reply. I wish at this time my husband whould let me share with family and friends but it his wish to find out everything before letting others know. I understand his wishes but very hard for me to turn to someone. Went for CT scan yesterday and will be visiting with assigned Oncolgist on the 10th Oct. Unfortunately I cannot be with him as I have to stay with my daughter in another province why she has her Thyroid surgery she is having a hard time with her own problems and trying to keep grades up at University as well. We have not told her of her Dad yet and feel why pile more fear into her at this time. My prayers are for your husband as well.

Sorry havn't posted for a while as all who are taking care of a patient know the stress of it. Mike has now taken his 2nd round of chemo( R-CHOP) and for a healthy person before all this happened it has really knocked him out both physical and mental. His first round was a very long day 10 hours as they needed to introduce Rituxin very slowly. He had no side effects at administering time but the next day
and for 9 days after was down. It is really hard on me to see him so down as it really frustrates him that he has no energy at all along with he can't think clearly because of the chemo fog. He was just starting to feel good a week before his next round and then down again on this 2nd set of chemo. His mental state is much better as he says he has excepted it now and will beat this. We have still kept this away from our daughter has they have been having a real time regulating her hormone levels. I am sure the university stress hasn't helped. She will be coming home for Xmas on the 17th of Dec. So I am feeling nervous and elated all at the same time. I know telling her will relieve a lot of pressure from us and at the same time hurt her tremendously I am sure there will be alot of changes in her life as well. She is scheduled to start her iodine treatment in January and has a month before that to start a no sodium diet. So looks like fish for Christmas dinner. Small price to pay. Will keep in touch with Mike's progress.
