after effects of chemo for NHLMy husband, 66 and until diagnosed with NHL in late May very healthy and strong. He completed his 8th and final chemo infusion in mid-October. He tolerated the treatments well and was fine until about two weeks ago. Now, it seems he's falling apart. He sleeps almost continually -- last weekend, he nodded off driving to pick up a newspaper and crashed into a parked car. Luckily no one hurt, but I stripped him of the car keys. He's mumbling, calling out in his sleep, and today, couldn't remember that his mother had died 5 years ago and also couldn't remember how to answer a call on his cell phone.
He's still bloated from all the steroids, although that's subsiding. Is this at all expected? Should I camp out in a neurologist's office or the hospital ER? I'm frightened for him, and for myself as well. Dr. said it would be Christmas before he felt like himself, but no one gave us any warning about this kind of reaction.
Re: after effects of chemo for NHLI also had memory loss and extreme tiredness after chemotherapy followed by stem-cell transplant.
God willing your husband is in better condition by now like the doctor predicted. It may be hard to find a doctor you and your husband can comunicate with but that is very important. Eating the right food is also important. Recently I found a book written by a doctor who after coming down with a specially bad kind of cancer was told he probably had only 7 months to live. He writes about diet and exercise and other things cancer patients can do to help themselves. I'll be happy if you write back to let me know how things are going
