Multiple Myeloma Care

Post a new topicby cat9050 on Sat Sep 05, 2009 5:01 am

My mother, age 73 has multiple myeloma and is in a clinical study at the Mayo Clinic. As caregivers, my siblings and I are overwhelmed with the 24/7 care she requires. Is this typical? Mayo indicates her disease is in the early stages but since chemo started one month ago, her hemoglobin levels fall week to week from highs of around 10 after a transfusion to just above 8 within 3 weeks. She has received 2 blood transfusions. How do others deal with the level of care required?
