Thank r response to my inquiry (posted as a response to anor writer's query). I have been diagnosed cancer (adenocarcinoma) of my left lower lobe. Surgery has been ruled out because of or pulmonary difficulties, I am to meet an ocologist next week to discuss chemorapy/x-ray rapy. original symptom sent me to doctor (January 2001) mild (compd to now) swelling of my feet hs sore knees. Since January, swelling has gotten worse worse--shoes out of question notsting 40 mg of Lasix every day-- I suffer intermittent I feel is horrible debilitating pain in my lower arms, knees lower legs. When responded to my earlier query, provided me name of syndrome my doctor had mentioned (hypertrophic osteoarthropathy). I have read everything I can find on subject, I have only seen references to "mild pain." I am taking 20 mg of oxycontin twice a day (every 12 hs) reduces pain a great deal about 4 days out of 7. At least 2 days per week medicine does not begin to touch pain. Am I just being a baby? On anor note, mentioned had not seen severe edema to be a common complication of type of cancer. Do have any suggestions as to may be causing edema? I thank so much being re.

You are not being a baby; I have seen such severe pain that patients are unable to do anything functional on a daily basis. The edema may be caused by mild to moderate malnutrition with a decrease in albumin levels- have your physician check to see if this may be a cause. Thank you for using oncologychannel and good luck.
