How much time?My mother, 81, a woman who never smoked in her life, was diagnosed with Stage 3b lung cancer in January, 2003. She had 20 radiation treatments until they wore her down so much we almost lost her from lack of fluids. She sleeps a lot and has practically no appetite. She has been told that fluid is starting to build up in her lungs and although her latest scan showed the tumor shrunk 1 cm. it also showed it grew larger in another place. The doctor called this a "positive/negative" report. Just yesterday she started up with this cough again. She isn't strong enough for anymore treatments. Hospice has been providing some relief. I see a much thinner woman, pale but still very feisty. If she is complaining than I know she is still very much alert. Mom is acting like she has years and it pains me to ask this but...just how much time can we expect and why is it the doctors won't say? I know it is something we can never fully prepare for but just an idea would help. Thank you.
