ComplicationsAs of my last post we have still not staged my Mom's Cancer. After the biopsy and diagnosis we were set up with the Pulmonologist, Oncologist, and Surgeon. We met with the Pulmonologist and discussed some of the findings in the original CT, the two tumors and the other suspicious lesions in the same lung. What they have found is a mass in the heart, this could be fatty tissue or it could be a Myxoma ( a benign primary heart tumor, unrelated). Today she had an ECHO (which determined very little) and on wednesday will go in for a TEE (Transesophegeal Echo) to determine if this is a tumor. Sometime this week she will have the PET and then we meet back with the surgeon and pulmonologist The oncologist has been put off until Friday since the heart has to be evaluated before any treatments can be discussed.. I guess I am wondering if anyone has had experience with a Myxoma, or any of the other issues. We have not had anyone sit down and talk about this, I imagine that will be the oncologist after the PET results are in. Thank you for any advice or comments.
Re: ComplicationsI have no experience with Myxoma but what I read is not encouraging. It is a heart tumor that is not usually malignant, but still needs to be surgically removed. They are rare and can be lethal in many ways. They also have about a 10% chance of being genetically linked, hereditary.
All you can do is wait for more diagnostic information.
