Chemo side effects???

Post a new topicby Guest on Mon May 27, 2002 1:57 pm

Hi all,

My father had lung cancer last year which appears to have been successfully
treated with chemo and radio therapy.

A few weeks ago he started having what can only be described as "fits". The
only difference I can see over my perception of "fits" is that he remained
fully aware of what was happening but was having severe muscle spasms. He
was sent home from hospital in the UK twice after blood tests etc were done
and was eventually told that he had been having TIAs. He was also told that
they were nothing really to worry about at the moment.

He went off for 2 weeks holiday to Greece and had another of these attacks
on Friday. He was taken to a Greek hospital where he has been kept in and a
scan was done showing a shadow on the brain which has been described by my
step mother as a "bruise".

My 2 questions are:

1. Does this sound familiar to someone?
2. When he had the first attacks, my initial thought was that the cancer
may have spread to his brain. He had just had his second 3 month check and
been given the all clear. Why could it be, given his recent history, that a
scan wasn't done over here, especially when this had happened twice.

My father is 56 and is on Ramopril(sp?) and takes an aspirin a day after a
heart attack when he was 49. After the TIAs he was also prescribed beta
blockers. Could this have any bearing on it?

I too am concerned about the cancer being in his brain but cannot say for sure. I would encourage him to see a neurologist and have a repeat ct scan of his head. this really is not a usual occurance and definately not the typical symptoms of TIA's.
