Adenocarcinoma

Post a new topicby Guest on Sun Jun 03, 2001 12:12 pm

My far just recently been diagnosed Adenocarcinoma,non-small cell lung cancer is inoperaable because of tumor being near or around pulmunary artery. y originally thought y would be able to do chemo, once y cled a blockage of his liver a stint or a shunt (not sure of correct term in case). y have drained his lung once, taking off over 1 liter of fluid, of not much benefit because of seeming to fill-up fluid again. y were going to start chemo after unblocking liver, y could not do because of cancer in liver. After , y did a bone scan ct scan, came back good results. y also thought y may have been wrong about cancer in liver, n said untunately, not case. y kept him in hospital permed a Thorascopic Talc Pleuredesis. y originally said y would start chemo next day, n said y would not his cancer is Stage IV. My questions I need more info on Adenocarcinoma in lung, metasis to liver? thorascopic procedure, exactly is it? do y do ? all options, considering above inmation? about alternatives? I live 130 miles from where my far is going to hospital am getting all my inmation from my sister, feel very helpless uninmed. I ask my sister questions she does not know answers to my questions! Please help me! I NEED TO KNOW MORE!!

The best thing for you to do in this situation is to travel to the oncologist who is treating your father and sit down and ask your questions. Stage 4 non small cell lung cancer (of which adenocarcinoma is a part) is not considered curable and the life span of these patients is significanctly shortened. Chemotherapy may prolong survival by several months if the patient is well enough to tolerate the effects of the therapy. Please call and make either a in person visit or a telephone conference with the treating doctor so that your questions can be appropriately answered. Thank you for using oncologychannel and good luck.
