1.4 CM Tumor on Lung Metastized to SpineMy brother 57 has just found he has a 1.4 CM tumor on his lung. They also found a tumor on his spine and it has gone into the bone in his spine. Hi going to get a Biopsy on the lung tomorrow 10/20/08. Does anyone have experience with a cure for this condition? They did not find any other tumors any place else in his body. Hi is at St Jude's Medical Center in Fullerton Ca. Clinical Trial? I don't think we have much time to come with a cure. Open to Clinical Trial
Re: 1.4 CM Tumor on Lung Metastized to SpineI am familiar with St Judes in Fullerton. Let the Docs complete their diagnosis and see where they stand with the type of tumor and the proposed treatment. Until you have all the information it is premature to explore research type medical protocols.
Re: 1.4 CM Tumor on Lung Metastized to SpineThanks. The anxiety of waiting is very stressful. He is going in to for the biopsy of the tumor on the lung. Then they will determine the procedure/option. I am just hopeful since he in such good physical condition that they well go after this with everything that is available. Thanks for your reply
Re: 1.4 CM Tumor on Lung Metastized to SpineWe found out today the type is adenocarcinoma. The Oncologist has him going to a spinal surgeon to repair the spine. They are afraid the chemo will shrink the tumor on the spine and cause other problems. My question now is what can be done to fix the lung and remove the cancer. Is chemo the best option. Any information/options or new treatment will be appreciated
Re: 1.4 CM Tumor on Lung Metastized to SpineI am limited in what I know about treating cancers of any sort. My discipline dealt with managing their consequences more than defining any treatment for them. I have requested the moderator of this site to request a response from 'Lung Doc' who would be a more knowledgeable resource for you.
My thoughts are that because the tumor has initially invaded the spinal area that caution must be used in how to treat it. It is possible that if they attack the tumor that they may damage the nerves in its immediate proximity which could result in a number of complications. Please discuss this with your Doctors to see if that is a concern and how they look to deal with it. In your immediate area you have several medical teaching institutions that may provide you with some useful feedback. UCI is closest. You also have UCLA, USC and Loma Linda University Med Center which is just inland from you (San Bernardino).
