Re: Lung cancerHi Susie,
I know how hard it can be to hear that one of your parents has lung cancer.. My mom was diagnosed on March 14, 2009 with stage 3a Non Small Cell Lung cancer. She is only 54, and has been a smoker for 29 years.. It came very all of a sudden, and although we were all in a state of shock, we immediately began doing our research to find her the best possible treatment. We live here in NYC and we decided to go with a team at NY Presbyterian Hospital. She went through 37 rounds of radiation and lots of chemo (cant remember how many).. As of 3 weeks ago, she is in remission. We don't know how long this will last, but we have faith and hope that it lasts forever. Please dont give up hope. Have your dad get the treatment that he needs. It will help. Have faith, and cherish every single moment you have with him. Keep him smiling, but don't treat him as if he's dying, because he is LIVING. My mom is about the strongest person I know, has never cried once, never asked "why me", and has always remained positive. Please help your dad help himself. Feel free to email me anytime. God Bless.
Re: Lung cancerHow did your Father's Doctors appt go? My Dad was diagnosed with stage 3b squamous cell carcinoma last thursday. The mass in his right lung caused a compression blood clot in his upper chest. The cancer has also spread to the lymph nodes in his neck. He is scheduled to begin chemo and radiation treatments in 2 weeks. He is taking injections twice a day of blood thinner for 14 days to attempt to dissolve the clot and/or prevent others. He is 76 years old and looks 60. He hasn't had any symptoms at all other than a slight swelling in his neck on the right side and periodic episodes of shortness of breath. I am absolutely terrified of what his disease and the treatment for it will do to him. It seems everything I read says 12 mos. I just can't wrap my mind around that. Please post and let me know how your Father is doing. Please pray for us and I will continue to pray for you. God Bless.
