Recently I was diagnosed with what the oncologist said was a Stage 0 leukemia. Although my blood tests were normal, abnormalities showed up in my bone marrow biopsy. The oncologist said symptons may not appear for 6-8 years but wants to test my blood periodically for any changes. I am presently trying to get my records to better understand this. Can you give me any more information on this?

I was made aware as early as 10 yrs ago that my white cell count was high. The Doctor did not explain to me what that signified. I was not alert enough to ask. In June of 1999, in a short hospital stay, the attending physician also told me the white cell count was high. I insisted that he explain. He replied that either I had an infection or that I had Leukemia. When I asked him what we could do about it, he shruged his shoulders and said nothing until the glands start to swell, then treatment is possible. (What an answer).

Jan of 2000, I visited an Oncologist who confirmed that I had Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. The white cell count should be approximately 4-10,000 and mine was 48M +. Lack of sufficient oxygen in the blood stream will contribute to cancer. (Dr. Robert Barefoot). My white cell count has dropped as low as 23,000 but is currently up to 43,000. Fluctations are a usual occurence in Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. I have my white cell count checked by blood test at least every three months.
