Newbie with flow cytometry blood test questionOK, my WBC count has been elevated for a long time now, and I have lupus which flares-up a lot, so I'm forever having infections (minor ones) but my WBC count has gone to 32,200 and I've had steroids(Prednisone--which I know can raise the WBC count), plus I've had an anti-viral for shingles and a strong broad-spectrum antibiotic, all within last 2 weeks and my WBC count keeps going up, up , up. So, I have an appointment with a hematologist next week, who my regular physician has consulted with, and the hematologist told my GP to order certain blood tests. One such test was a flow cytometry--the lab tech had never heard of it, and had to call around to get the "code" for it and even though they were whispering I heard them say it was to test for leukemia. I do have many of the signs/symptoms like easy bruising, small cuts bleeding a lot, dark circles under my eyes, skin itching, complete and utter fatigue, and low-grade fevers. Oh, and lots and lots of night sweating.
I don't know if all the above are indicative of leukemia or not, but many of the symptoms above CAN BE attributed to my lupus my diabetes and several medications I take. I trust this forum, I've read many posts and believe you guys are sincere and really willing to help. Could I just ask that everyone who reads this post reply with an answer of whether they "think" it's leukemia or not. You can just answer "yes" or "no" but a brief reason as to why you answered which way would be GREATLY appreciated. I know you have NO way of knowing for sure, but I am a true believer in "gut" feelings. I kind of think it's NOT leukemia. I will definitely post again after I see the hematologist. Thanks..... God bless all of you, Rhonda aka dresbaby
