What to expect?

Post a new topicby 208019208 on Tue Jun 16, 2009 12:57 pm

I would like to start off with I am just learning all the medical terms and may not have the right terminology, so I apologize.
My father had his left kidney out along with lymph nodes back in early May. Was a large tumor and diagnosed as stage 4 renal cell carcinoma. They thought they had gotten everything, but he had been complaining of pain in his left femur. They found that the cancer had metastasized to the bone in his leg. They then did more scans and have found the cancer has also spread to his pancreas, liver, spine and hip area. They are concerned about the femur being very unstable and want to put a rod in it. They wish to do this prior to starting chemo or any treatment.
He has an appointment next week to see Dr.'s at Sloan in NY. I am frustrated that we have started no treatment. Surgery on his leg will probably not be until July sometime and then they said they need to wait a couple of weeks before starting chemo
Had anyone had any similar experiences? Would like to hear from you. Thanks. Dave

Update: My dad had a rod put into his left femur on 6/18. He is back home and waiting for his next surgery. They are scheduled to remove a disk in his neck that has cancer all over it. Surgery is scheduled for July 1. He is still not able to start any treatment.......frustrating. Dr.'s say about 2 weeks after this next surgery and we can start chemo. Scheduled to see Dr. at Sloan on 6/25. This waiting game is the worst. Thanks, Dave
