complex renal cysts

Post a new topicby Guest on Wed Oct 02, 2002 5:28 pm

A mildly complex cyst that is 1.3 cm in size was found after I had an ultrsound for kidnsy stones after an episode where I passed a stone with severe pain. My blood work and urinalysis was normal. My urologist suggested a ultrasound follow up in 3 months which showed the cyst did not change in size and is stable. My uroligist ordered a MRI of which I do not know the result at this time. What causes these Cysts? What are the treatment of cysts? Are they a potiental problem?

While I believe the exact cause of such cysts remains to be proven, I think most of us think it may be due to a tiny blockage in the kidney tubules.
Ninety-nine percent of them are harmless and require nothing other than reassurance that all is OK. Occasionally we cannot be sure that a cystic lesion is only a cyst and other tests (MRI, for instance) and/or rarely surgery are needed.
Please follow your urologist’s advice.
