3rd Time Around

Post a new topicby sirena on Thu Aug 23, 2007 3:04 pm

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone out there has had Hodgkin's come back. I have been treated three separate times for it, and it continues to come back but is not spreading.

i have been in remission for about 2 years and my pet scan has come back funny. my doctor seems not too concerned but i am. i was stage 4 when i was diagnosed and i just have the worst feeling that it has returned. i have lost my appetiate and have dropped weight over the summer. i'm a teacher and i never lose weight. the pet scan showed activity that was suspesious of cancer cells where the cancer had first began; but i still have to wait 6 months for another pet. i just want to know and get it over with. i keep waiting for this stuff to come back in some shape way or form.

Hi!

Yes, I too am on time #3 for HD. I was initially diagnosed in 1993, went through 6 months of chemo, then was in remission for 11 years. In 2004 HD returned and it was treated with radiation. I was then in remission after 25 doses of radiation...until now. I just had a malignant lymph node removed from my neck/collarbone area Friday before last and the plan is now (tentively) to go to MD Anderson and go through some heavy-duty chemo and a bone marrow transplant. The current disease has not been staged yet but that will happen at MDA.

My stats: white male, 55 years old

The best of luck to you!

Hi, my name is Kim. I was diagnosed in 5/04, relapsed in 9/05, and 9/06 just finished clinical trial MDX060. My original site was MS and neck (ABVD and Rads). relapse was neck and under arm (stem cell transplant), third was neck and clavical (trial MDX060 and Gemcidibine). All except original (IIA) were small sites. I am in a stable disease with little change at this time. Not sure what to do next. Looking at all options as well as alternative medicine and life style change. Never thought that this would hang on so long. I am hearing of more relapse than I thought occurred (at least per the doctors).
I am 47 years old.
My prayers are with you that whatever you do works for you.

Hi Kim. I just finished my first treatment (ABVD and radiation) for HD about 3 months ago. I am a 27 year old female. I understand your fears VERY WELL. I have had a few night sweats over the last week or so and have had a funny feeling of pressure around the original tumor site (mediastinal). I still have another month until my first checkup and I'm terrified. I have dropped 4 pounds in the last 2 weeks, have had terrible headaches and have had a loss of appetite as well. When I called my oncologist to discuss this with him, he said it sounded like a migraine and perscribed Imitrex for it. Everyone I know said the same thing: migraine. They said this also explained the nausea, loss of appetite, and weight loss. I don't know though... why the night sweats and why the weird pressure around the tumor site? I'm terrified and have been very nervous. I don't want to wait the month until my next checkup, I want to go tomorrow. So, I have not had an actual recurrence yet, but I'm scared that it might be. Not sure what to do and have no one to talk to that understands. Everyone just thinks I'm being paranoid or dramatic. Cancer has a way of doing that to someone though...

Rana.

Hi, reading your post I remember the feelings well (they never really go away). All I can tell you is that you are the only one that truly knows your body. If something does not feel right stay on the doctor to check it out. My doctor would have done it because she knew I would not rest until I knew. And the stress itself would be bad for the HD and lessen the chance on continue remission. I am currently undergoing a new treatment with RAD001 (thru Mayo Clinic Trials) If you have not done so already, maybe you could look at a second opion.

My prayers are with you and just remember, it could be nothing, be positive.
