2nd recurrenceDiagnosed 5/2006, NEC 8/2006, remission for almost 2 years. Had ABVD chemo and partial upper-mantle radiation. Scans showed 2 affected nodes in collarbone group only. They staged me at IIA because they suspected it may have spread to mediastinum, though that was not detected at the time (I had some itching symptoms back then). Now in 4/2008 I have a small mass in my mediastinum below the field that was radiated in 2006. Only one mass detected by PET, not bulky, no symptoms or any other signs of stage II or higher (blood tests look good). Why should I need a bone marrow biopsy to stage and why should I need chemo again? Just because it's a recurrence? Do others have experiences with oncologists going "by the book" instead of treating for your individual case? I believe I am Stage I and radiation alone ought to take care of it. Apparently the chemo didn't kill it all last time anyway, and the side effects for me were terrible. Any thoughts?
