Genetic....Hi, i am new to this website... i was diagnosed with HD
when i was 13, went through the chemo and and radiation... all that. I have now been in remission for about 8 years now. I have a 4 year old daughter and am currently pregnant and plan to have many more children. My question that i am wondering is if anyone knows the chances/percentages of my children getting it. I know just about everything is genetic... i would just like to know to what extent... if anyone happens to have any information on that?? Cancer is not common in my family... i happen to be the first.
Thank you ahead of time for all your help!
Re: Genetic....The information I have was that my brother and sister were 3% to 5% more at risk for getting Hodgkins but only because they grew up in the same environment. Studies have shown cancer clusters in certain areas. The local cancer registrar keeps track of cancer statistics, type of cancer reported and where that individual is residing or had lived prior to diagnosis. Some cancers they believe are environmentally caused for example chemicals leaching into the ground and into water supplies. I was diagnosed at 31 years old but when I was in High School the boy that lived across the street from me and an older man who lived about 1/4 of a mile from me was diagnosed with the Hodgkins also. I believe current information that I read said that there is a small chance that some cancers may have a genetic link but it would be best if you got the most current statistics from your oncologist.
