Head and Neck Cancer

i am 30yrs old and have been a heavy drinker and smoker for 15yrs. i recently quit both because i have allthe signs of neck cancer. i have a numb tongue and sore jaw and ear on the same sode. my neck hurts on one side and feels swollen to me, also, i found a small whie lession in the roof of my mough. i have set an apt w/ a specialist, but it will bw two more weeks till i get in. doesn anyone know if i just take myself to the emergency hospital, will they be able to get me faster resutls or screening somehow? how can they take so long to see people at the doctor's office when the cancer is just steadily growing??????

Hi Amanda,
I hope you were able to get to see a specialist for your condition. I would recommend that you see a head and neck surgeon right away if they haven't recommended it already. They will have to send you for several xrays including a petscan in which determines if you do have cancer or not. I just saw your request for advice and I am hoping this helps and I am not too late in providing information that you need. Please feel free to ask me any questions as I was a cancer patient with larygeal cancer in 2007 you can read my posts and you will see what I went through and how I have overcome this cancer. I may not be able to answer a lot of your questions as my condition was very different from yours, but there are nurses and doctors that you can speak with to be able to answer whatever questions you have.
