what is the best solution for esophageal cancer?

My father was diagnosed with stage 3-4 Esophageal Cancer August 2007. He was treated by chemotherapy The tumour [tumor] became small in the first chemotherapy but it didn’t change in the second chemotherapy Now the doctors suggest my father to do a surgery, but there is a problem that my father is weak, only 80 lb. My question is what is the best solution to treat esophageal cancer like my father’s?

Did the medical doctors discuss placing stents in the esophagus?
