Living with my Father’s Esophageal Cancer

I’m hoping someone has advice for a 66 year young cancer patient of post esophageal surgery. After being diagnosed with esophageal cancer, my father went through 2 rounds of chemo and radiation. This left him incredibly week and malnourished, even after receiving a feeding tube. He had his esophagus removed and continues to have severe difficulties with his appetite. 6 weeks post surgery he still is nauseous with no appetite.

I am caregiver for a dear friend who is 67 and just underwent a 6 week round of chemo and radiation. He underwent surgery 8 weeks ago with the anticipation of removing the esophagus and replacing it with part of the stomach or intestines. When they opened him up the cancer has spread into the abdomen so they just closed him back up. They said he has stage 3-4 cancer and 30% chance of survival. A feeding tube was placed directly into the intestines and has been replaced 3 times. They put him on glycerna which did not go well with his system plus the flow rate was to fast. He was readmitted to the hospital and hydrated plus a gave him an IV with all kinds of nutrients. He continued the radiation and chemo while in the hospital. He was there 2 weeks. We know have moved him to skilled nursing center which is even a bigger nightmare. They changed some of his meds and have made things worse. We are probably going to move him to a better place. I understand that it takes about 4 weeks after the last chemo and radiation before they determine if anything has worked. Did you dad have surgery? It takes at least 6 months after surgery to be able to eat. If you want to email me directly, I can be reached at [moderator note: email address has been removed.].
