Espohageal CancerOn Nov 15, 2007 I found out I had Esophageal cancer stage 2A. On Dec 14, 2007 I had my surgery to remove my esophagus. I was able to go home after ten days. I was on a feeding tube for six weeks, it took me a few months to get my strength back. I went back to work in March. The only problems that I had was I had a leakage where my esophagus was reattached to my stomach and I had to have my esophagus stretched three times.
I just had a scan done on April 17, 2009 and everything is looking good. ...Read the full article
Re: Espohageal CancerHi Bill - my father was just diagnosed with esophageal cancer and will need an esophagectomy. Can you share the name of the dr and hospital in which your surgery was performed? Due to the high inverse relationship between surgery volume and mortality rate, positive referrals is the best. Any advice greatly appreciated. Many thanks! - May
Re: Espohageal CancerHi May the Dr. who did may surgery is Dr. Rodney J Landreneau and the name of the hospital is UPMC Passavant in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. Follow what the Dr. tells him to do and he will do good. If you have anymore questions May please feel free to ask I will gladly answer what I can for you. God bless
Re: Espohageal CancerThank you so much for your response, Bill. May i ask how your progress has been so far - as far as complications after the 3rd "fix" of the leakage? And may i ask what your experience has been like? My father, like all others in this position, is fearful of the loss of quality of life post-surgery. We are trying to get all the proper statistics to make an informed decision and evaluate all options. Would you be able to share some of your experiences offline? Many thanks, May
Re: Espohageal CancerHi May In response to how I am doing everything is going great no complications at all. The leakage healed good. I had to have my esophagus stretch three times and everything is good. I kept a positive attitude about everything. My quality of life has not changed I feel like I had nothing done to me. I can still do what I did before my surgery. Yes I would like to talk to you offline God bless Bill
