My husband had his esophageous taken out in July of 07. He also had two lymph nodes taken out because they also had cancer in them. He went thru chemo and radiation before surgery and four months of chemo after surgery. It has been a very long and trying journey, but he is now starting to feel better, he still has good and bad days, but the good days are coming more ofter. So I would encourang you to be sure he has the best Dr. you can find who specializes in esoph. cancer, and listen to what he has to say. Be prepared to go thru some hard times, but with treatment and God's help, he should make it, just as my husband has. My best wishes to you and your husband. I will be praying for him.

I am going through the same thing. My husband (39) was diagnosed with stage 4 esophagus cancer back in June 2007. He just had a stomach ache! Went to his doctor found out he was anemic. Withinn the next week they did an endoscopy and found an "ulcer" which ended up the next day with the biopsy coming back as cancer. Shock of our lives! He had a brother who died of the same cancer within 6 months of diagnosis 15 years ago. My husband was given 4-6 months without treatment and 6-12 with treatment. We are going on 10 months now! We have switched hospitals. And let me tell you chemo is very scary. The first time we came home after chemo and he started having all the side effects I just cried not knowing what to do. I am 25 and have never really known a whole lot about cancer, having a distant aunt that died of it years ago. So don't give up hope! We have been thorugh so much, and now we have to start over. The insurance company we have would not pay for the chemo he was recieving saying it was experimental even thought our dr assured us it wasnt. So, now that our bill got pretty high they cut him off from treatment and said we needed to find a new hospital. Not only that but we need to start with a new treatment because the insurance wont pay for the stuff he was on, even though it was working well. He hasn't had chemo in 9 weeks so hopefully we can get back on track. But, don't ever give up!
