Re: PS-The bright shell that encircles the brain on CT is the skull. The bones of the skull are extremely dense and are assigned white on CT scans.
If the meninges (lining of the brain) become inflammed by viruses or bacteria, they can also look whitish on CT scans especially those where IV contrast has been used.
