Title: effects of chemo, 5FU, CP11 and Leucovorin

Post a new topicby Guest on Wed Apr 17, 2002 5:09 pm

Post: A family memberis taking the above chemo agents as a treatment for metastic colon cancer. He is currently experiencing severe loss of strength, mobility, and muscle weakness which has caused him to fall several times. Recently neurology tests MRI of Brain and Spine are negative. Pet Scan showed cancer cell activity in spine and left femur and hip. Brain surgery in fall to remove tumor sucessfully. 6 weeks of whole brain radiation from Oct to Dec 01. Last chemo treatment was 3wks ago and condition worsening. Chemo cycle is 3wks on 2wks off. Family member was on Decadron after brain surgery in October 01 to Jan 02. Recently put back on Decadron and currently taking for last 2wks.

Main Questions:

What is causing this severe muscle weakness (ie. unable to lift leg to climb stairs, picking up head after fall)?
