stomach problems after 5 yearsHi, I had colon cancer this April will be 7 years ago. I had half my colon out. The cancer was in 1 lymph node. It was not in the tissue surrounding it. I went thry the standard 6 month chemo for colon cancer. I am now 49. A year and a half ago I started having stomach pains, loud bleching, and diarrhea. Of course every year I have my colonosocopy and checkup with my oncologist I went to my general physician. I had a gall bladder ultra sound, blood work, and my stool checked. Everything was fine. He then sent me to the digestive health center. I had a colonsocopy and a upper GI. They said I had hital hernia and gasteritious. I continued having problems. I did find out by a fluke that the perscripition potassuim I was taking was not helping my problem. I got put on a lower does of my fluid pill (which was depleting my potassuim), and was able to quit taking the potassuim.
I had another scope and everything was fine. The only thing the doctors can come up with is that since half of my colon was taken out (from the transverse down to the ascending colon), that part was the part that absorbs, that is why I am still having the diarrhea if I don't take the medicine. I am on cholestyraminem, and now diphenoxylate-atropine, which this helps hold everything together. I just started a couple of days ago on the dip/atr. The doc. said hopefull this will help me not go so much. For 5 years I did not have this problem. I just want to know if anyone else with my type of surgery has started having this happen to them. I am getting so tired of going back and forth with this. I am thinking about going out of town to a larger clinic to see if maybe the doctors here are missing something. So please if you have or are currently experciencing anything like this please let me know. Thank You,
