rectal cancerDo you know of any evidence or published studies showing that the skill of the surgeon directly correlates with improved outcome and/or overall survival for patients selected to have rectum sparing surgery? This is sort of an insurance based issue regarding denial of referral to a rectal surgeon because "it can be done here".
Re: rectal cancerI know of no such studies. The skill of the surgeon does correlate with the morbidity and mortality of the surgery. Surgeons who routinely perform rectal sparing surgeries have fewer complications and faster recoveries than those who do not routinely perform the surgeries. Thank you for using oncologychannel and good luck.
