I don't understand the staging thing very well. How bad is sWe just found out my dad has stage 3d colon cancer and when he asked how long he will live, the dr just says he has patients go on to live another 15 years but has also had them dead in a year, there is no way to know for sure. Well what kind of answer is that? From everything I have red on line, 3d doesnt sound that bad. They took out 30 lim notes and only 1 was positive for cancer and it has not spread to any of his organs, so what are we dealing with? It doesnt help that he lives in mossouri and I am in texas. Can anyone help?
Re: I don't understand the staging thing very well. How bad is sDonnaiam,
I understand your concern and I am wondering the same thing. My son-in-law was recently diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer. The surgeon removed 50% of his colon and 32 lympth nodes. Of the 32 lympth nodes 16 were malignant. My son-in-law will being chemo therapy on Monday and will also have radiation treatments. He has lost a tremendous amount of weight and I am very concerned. My son-in-law just turned 41 so he does have youth in his favor. I believe it is difficult to tell if any cancer cells traveled through the lympth system and hopefully the chemo will kill off any that were missed in surgery. I also believe that God decides when we die and the general health and attitude of a patient is important. Hopefully, someone with experience with this dreadful disease will have answers for both of us. God Bless!
