STROMAL CELL OVARIAN

Post a new topicby Guest on Tue Apr 09, 2002 10:47 pm

My sister in law has Ovarian Stomal cell cancer. The doctor has informed her that this is a rare type of tumor with not many drug treatments available. At this point my family and I are looking for anybody through out the world who has or is doing treatment for this type of conditon that may be considerd "cutting edge" Do you know of any? And perhaps can you give me more information on this condition. Thanks!

First, do you mean stromal cell SARCOMA of the ovary? This would be very rare and from my research the best treatment would be surgical removal. Stromal cell sarcomas can be seen in the uterus and in those situations after surgery progestational therapy usually is of some benefit. Additionally, I would suggest having the tumor tested for presence of C-kit or platelet derived growth factor receptor (PDGFR) as if one of them is present then treatment with Gleevec (aka: STI-571) may be of benefit. Thank you for using oncologychannel and good luck.
