How effective is Sytemic 5fu and Leucovorin with Radiation{Gastric Adenocarcinoma}

Dear Chemo nurse--My far at age 79 had a Stage 3 tumor removed from his Cardia of his stomach during past August. surgeon said he completely resected on Negative margins no or spread of cancer noticed. only thing exposed to cancer cells were Lymphatic tissue surrounded stomach because his tumor penetrated his submucosa.After a month or so when he finally recovered from surgery he had a regiment of 5fu combined Leucovorin from 16 days almost 30 days of Radiation.At point in time how effective rapy to stop cancer cells from dividing ming tumors or spreading?From my understing is is known as Adjuvant chemo rapy.How well does it respond? There is recent data over the last year that suggests that use of adjuvant chemotherapy with or without radiation improves survival in locally advanced gastric cancer cases. Thank you for using oncologychannel and please write back if other questions should arise. Good luck.
