In the dark

Post a new topicby watrspryte on Wed Mar 12, 2008 5:21 pm

I gave birth to my duaghter 3 months ago. Since that time I have had periodic bleeding and quite alot of pain. I have had 3 PAPs since I found out I was preg. They all have come back abnormal. The nurse told me the results of the last one showed squamous cell, but told me not to worry. They want me to come back in six months for another pap. I have done research online about this. It sounds pretty serious and scary to me. But my doc tells me not to worry and will not fill me in on what is going on! I must seem like a hypochodriac to them...I have called the office so many times with pain and abnormal bleeding. My question is...has anybody else experienced this kind of treatment? How can I obtain a straight answer from my doctor?

After I gave birth to my children, I bled & had pain for awhile as well. Could just be from the childbirth, kwim? Did your pap come back with high grade cells? Usually if it has high grade cells on it, they'll do a colposcopy (a type of biopsy). You could always get a second opinion if you wanted to. My pap last year was normal, then this year it was abnormal. I then had a colposcopy done. That came back as CIN3. Then I had to get a cone biopsy done. That came back as cancer.

But I think if your pap had high grade cells on it, they would have done a colposcopy.

Thank you so much for replying!
My PAP must not have shown high grade cells because they are wanting me to come back in six months for another pap. My doctor however is so overscheduled and I feel maybe I'm not getting the best care. I go in on the 18th to have the merena iud put in. Maybe I'm being overcautios, but I'm going to request a colposcopy. I just want to be sure. My mother had squamous cell carcinoma that required surgery and my aunt had lung cancer that resulted in single lung removal. One can never be too careful.
I really think the doc should have told me what grade cells were there, just so I could have peace of mind. I am moving to seattle at the end of this month and there I will get a second opinion.
Could you please tell me more about your personal experience? I am scared and Maybe for no reason.
Thank you again for your input.

Hi,
Scary huh? I haven't been back because my insurance ran out and I am unable to receive state benefits.
I don't have as much pain except for after intercourse, and I have irregular bleeding...not alot but more like spotting. I was really scared at first but now it's not in the forefront of my mind and I know there's not alot I can do about it right now.
I know it's very difficult when dr. won't let you in on what's going on. But be persistent and maybe they'll finally tell you something. Good luck and my prayers are with you.

Amanda.
