Question: Survival rate

Post a new topicby wife46 on Thu Nov 15, 2007 12:47 am

Hi there
What is the survival rate for patients with metatstatic carcinoid tumors to the liver? His tumor is 12 cent. in the liver another is 8cent and there are innumerable tumors throughout the liver. Doctors says that it moved fromt he colon area to the lymphs nodes to the liver. The tumor in the lymph nodes is about 4.5 cent. My husband had no symptoms back in Sept when diagnosed (only pain in rt side), but now have all the sympotoms of carcinoid syndrome except one. What is the expected survival rate for patients who have the syndrome? Doe these symptoms means that the cancer is slowly killing him? We have two small children and I would like to get a clear answer regarding this matter to prepare myself and them.

The American Cancer Society provided invaluable information for me when I was diagnosed.

My husband, also, has metastasized carcenoid cancer in liver, lymph nodes, colen and quite a few other places in his body. We, also are interested in survival rate but he has chosen only to treat the symptoms with shots once a month for a year. It sounds like it is a matter of time but for now he "looks good", even though he has symptoms. Have you ever gotten any answers to your question? Would you be interested in communicating? It is killing ME! He's handling it very well. Thanks for your time. Quilter

Hi my name is Archie and a carcinoid patient as well. I would rather focus my attention and energy on finding best possible treatment in your case. Statisitics are only being use in medicine for a comparison of every case involve in the illness. The survival would depend on how the symptoms could be stop because it is important to do that because if this would carry on it means that the carcinoid will continue to spread in your entire body. I know the feeling of having this condition and want to know at once your remaining years to live. Be positve and try to avoid food could flare up the symptoms avoid banana, pineapple, kiwi, walnuts, chocolates and spici food. Eat high protein diet with loads of fruits and take vitamins with high level of niacin. I hope this info help you in anyway.

Hi Shea I was told that I'm going to be registered to join the trial drug but I haven't got it yet. Next week I will see my specialist and I will ask the team when I'm going to start the trial drug. I'll keep you posted. Take care.

I don't know where you are in the journey, but my husband lived for 17 years with the disease. When first diagnosed his had metastasized to the liver. Much has to do with how you take care of yourself. We meditated, switched to macrobiotic eating for a while, and he lived many years beyond the initial two that an oncologist suggested. Good luck and blessings!

Hello Shea,

I was told that I'm going to be included in a drug trial for carcinoid but as of now I haven't recive any information about it. I will ask my lead clinical doctor about this in July then if I have new information about the drug trial I will send you another email, ok? Take care
