Osteosarcoma Bone Cancer

Post a new topicby heiking on Mon Mar 17, 2008 1:49 pm

I was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in the lower jaw in april 2006. They could find no specific reason for the cancer, as I dont smoke, eat healthy and live healthy. My family doesnt have many cancer diagnosis. I underwent a 15hr surgery to remove the tumour and to rebuild me a new jaw using my left fibilar bone and a titanium plate. The tumour was +- 1cm. I also underwent 5 in hospial high dosage chemo treatments. I was cancer free for 14 months but it has now returned in January 2008, the same cancer in the soft tissue of my left cheeck. I am now halfway through radiation treatments and suffering from the severe side effects, ulcers etc. inside my mouth. There is so little known about Osteosarcoma. The tumour is +- 6cm and has shrunk with 1cm in the last 3 weeks. Apparantly sarcomas take longer to respond. I would like to hear from others that have possibly had the same cancer and specifically in the head or neck area, but any area would be ok, because its so rare. My Oncologists say its not a lifestyle cancer. I try to live healthy but currently due to the radiation treatment am battling to eat and drink anything, I love fresh vegetables and fruit but cannot even have it liquadized at this point without pain. Any advice would be welcome. Heidi Ras
