Problems following bladder removal and reconstruction

Post a new topicby sheila on Sun Sep 23, 2007 7:03 am

Hi Everyone
My brother (50) had his bladder and all the other non-essential bits not nailed down removed in May. He had a new bladder constructed from a piece of bowel and initially he made great progress. His new bladder functioned as expected and he was generally really well considering he had just undergone major surgery.
Four months on and he has a really bad pain in the cheek of his buttock that runs down his leg that can only be relieved by lying motionless on his side. He has the sensation that something like a broom handle (his description) is pushed up his back passage. He is feeling weak, tired and listless all of the time. Considering he was so well just two months post surgery this is really depressing.
Has anyone else experienced these sensations after bladder reconstruction? Does anyone know of an explanation? Can anyone recommend an effective treatment?
Many thanks.

I have not heard of this, the pain in the leg sounds like sciatica, the pain in his rectum is puzzling, I assume he has had a CT scan and has seen a GI Doctor, if not that might be helpful.Good luck, I wish your brother well.
