Post TURBT

Post a new topicby Guest on Wed Jun 06, 2001 1:08 pm

TURBT on 5/15 Low grade noninvasive tumor removed by Highly rated MD at a highly rated UNIV. Mecical Center. They gave me very little time for Q & A. Follow up cystoscopy in six months (origanally said three months) no more tests. I am thankful but question whether I should have more tests for pelvic, kidney, other cancers. Also what is probability of cancer returning in 6 months. Probability will never return? Thanks you are my only advocate.

We usually do follow-up cystoscopy every 3 months for the first two years after initial TURBT. If the lesion was extremely low grade (perhaps a papilloma) or another essentially benign lesion, a six-month follow up is most reasonable. If you also do not have any risk factors, the additional wait should be safe. The probability of a recurrence depends on the grade of the lesion and the random biopsy result, which your doctor would know. It sounds like you are in good hands.
