Bladder Cancer

y father is 72 years old and found blood in the urine. About one week ago,
he had a cystology to see what was going on. The doctors exact
words after the procedure were "you have a lot of tumors". My dad asked
"how many?". The doctor then responded with "let's just say multiple.". The
doctor scheduled a TURB for two weeks later. I asked my father if a biopsy
was done to insure that it was cancer and he said that no biopsy was done.
The did do a CT scan three days ago but we have not heard anything back
just yet. My dad asked the doctor if they were cancerous tumors. and the doc
said yet. My question is this... how can the doctor be so sure it's cancer if he
does not do a biopsy? I'm thinking the worse case here. Are they so big that
he can see them with his eyes and he can make that assumption? help
please.

If your doctor is anything like the one I had, he indicated immediately during examination that I had two tumors and they were cancerous. Took samples a few weeks later, was correct and recommended an operation within 3 months. Had the operation a month later with very little pain and now have an exterior bag to gather urine. Other than the bag, life is normal. I am 69.
