Father had "many, many" superficial bladder tumors

Post a new topicby andifrederiksen on Mon Aug 04, 2008 12:18 am

My father recently had a radical cystectomy for superficial bladder cancer The doctor said he did this procedure because of how many tumors he had in the bladder. I guess the doc said that when he went in to take out the bladder, in his career, he had never seen so many tumors in the bladder, and that they just spilled out. He mentioned that about four of the tumors were larger, i.e. 7-8 cm. He also mentioned that he did not see any cancer any where else, ie liver, nodes etc. He also mentioned my dad's cancer was low grade. He also checked my dad's bladder one year ago, and at that time he didn't have any cancer. Has anybody else had "a lot" of tumors? do they reoccur fast? I haven't heard of anybody having so many tumors. Usually it's just a few. In fact, the most I've read about is 8. Anybody else out there with many tumors?

I'm so sorry to hear about the radical treatment for your fathers multiple tumors.
My mom was just today diagnosed with one superficial bladder tumor and I'm half out of my mind. My brother just died of lung cancer after one year of treatment.
It is scary how we submit to these doctors who don't speak to the patient comprehensively.
If there is anything you can think of, tests or procedures, that should not be overlooked when starting treatment I'd love to know.
