bladder cancer reoccurance and frequency of checkups

Post a new topicby Chucktwo on Sun Aug 26, 2007 10:01 pm

I was diagnosed with low grade, low stage bladder cancer multifocal, one large 6 cm tumor. Tumors removed, BCG. First reoccurance at 8 months, small, removed ...then another reoccurance,at another 10 months, small 2 tumors, removed . Now I have been tumor free for 16 months. If I am tumor free for 24 months, can I go on 6 months cystos instead of every 3 months? thank you.

The frequency of follow up is up to your physician since they have all the information, however it is generally accepted that after 2 years of being tumor free you can increase the interval to every 6 months.By the way if you smoke quit since this is one of the main risk factors for developing bladder cancer, good luck.

thanks for response, I never smoked, but my father also had bladder cancer. I worked with PCB's for years and so did he. I will be checked again next month, and hope the tumor free dx will hold.
